Sofia’s Portuguese Bakery
Realisation
Some areas in the city of Turnhout risk to become degraded. To counter this, the city launched a large project called ‘Veerkrachtig Stadshart Turnhout’. As part of this project, we were asked to help small shop owners in these areas to gain more from their business. Because their growth also enhances the overall feel in the area.
We teamed up with 4 ethnic shop owners to innovate their business. At the end of the design track, each shop received advice and assets to take action right away. These ranged from small things such as redesigned window stickers or mail scripts for business development, to larger-scale advice such as construction plans for a shop expansion. One of them was Sofia’s, a unique bakery that sells Portuguese pastry, bread and specialities.
We believed that Sofia’s could attract extra clients by a rebranding based on the Portuguese specialities and Southern touch. We started with the Southern colours and playful shapes from the pastry. The result was a lively look and feel, that also increased Sofia’s visibility in the street and attracted a younger audience, passing by each day on their way to school.
In addition we made several suggestions for the interior design, with spaces to drink coffee, relax and enjoy the Portuguese specialities. The new look and feel was also translated in ideas to present and price the products in a clear and appealing way.
It was our pleasure to create a design for Sofia’s that fully reflects the diversity of her delicious pastry and takes her customers on a culinary journey to Portugal.
