For over 50 years, American Tyco Electronics has been a global player on the market of electronic components for an incredible amount of consumer and industrial products. These result in applications for network infrastructures and systems, such as energy networks, telecommunication systems and networks in buildings. In addition, Tyco Electronics also has a leading role when it comes to innovative wireless technology in communication systems, and with radar and defence applications.

Enlighten is the ‘fibre-to-home’-programme of Tyco Electronics, which was developed in active collaboration with Achilles Associates. It is composed of a series of products that can distribute optical glass fibres to the consumer’s home. The range includes fork off-points and so-called ‘wall-outlets’ (to let optical glass fibre cables pass through walls) that can be used both indoors and outdoors.

It is clear that the technical criteria for the development of the Enlighten programme were very extensive. Still, there were also other crucial requirements for the design: a fast and robust installation procedure and attention to aesthetics. The creative approach of Achilles’ design team was essential in this!
